Exclusive Distribution of URINFO™
22-09-2006
LiDCO Group plc (AIM: LID), the cardiovascular monitoring company, is pleased to announce that it has today signed an exclusive agreement to distribute in the UK and Ireland the URINFO™ line of continuous automated urine monitoring systems on behalf of Med-Dynamix, the Israeli developer and marketer of innovative solutions for fluid monitoring and patient care.
The URINFO systems incorporate Med-Dynamix’s patented Dynamic Flow Sensing technology providing continuous, automatic, real-time, reliable urine monitoring information. The systems enable physicians to gain access to direct information regarding renal perfusion and replace the existing mechanical urine meters and bags, eliminating the need for hourly manual checks. The Dynamic Flow Sensing technology rapidly identifies and has the potential to reduce the incidence of renal failure in hospital patients.
LiDCO will sell this monitoring system through its direct sales force and into its existing customer base. The combination of the LiDCOplus hemodynamic monitor and this renal monitoring system is expected to provide clinicians with more complete fluid monitoring information for critical care. The systems will be sold initially to LiDCO’s intensive care and surgical customers, but has the potential to be used in the general wards as well. There is an established multi-million pound UK market for urine flow devices and customer revenue budgets are already in place. This type of continuous, real-time technology reflects the trend towards automated point-of-care technologies that have the potential to improve patient outcomes. LiDCO expects hospitals will be able to make significant savings by detecting and managing early signs of renal failure. Following a successful evaluation of the URINFO system, St Thomas’ Hospital, London, will be the first hospital to change over to this technology in intensive care and surgery patients. This is expected to be in early October.
Avi Kleiman, Chief Executive of Med-Dynamix said:
“We are very pleased that LiDCO will be distributing the URINFO™ in the UK and Ireland. We value the quality of their sales force highly and believe that the combination of our respective technologies will give physicians greater scope to improve patient care while at the same time substantially reducing the associated healthcare costs for the NHS.”
Terry O’Brien, Chief Executive of LiDCO Group Plc said:
“It is our intention to provide our customers with the very best technology for the management of their critical care and surgical patients. Through use of the LiDCOplus Monitor we have shown that patients can be administered with the optimal amounts of fluids and drugs necessary to minimise hospital stay in surgery patients. The Med-Dynamix product has the potential to reduce complications stemming from renal failure in a wide group of at-risk hospital patients.”
